 ANNEXATION

Persons wishing to annex property to the City of Baraboo corporate limits are required to complete an application for annexation and pay fees to the City and State.  There are two different procedures and forms to follow depending upon whether there are residents on the property to be annexed.

Before any petition is filed, the petitioner must request a meeting with the City's development review committee.  Contact Kris Denzer  or Tom Pinion to be placed on the next agenda: 355-2730.   Forms for annexation may be obtained from the City Clerk's Department.

 BARTENDERS

Tavern Operator License - Bartender's and retail alcohol seller's must obtain a Tavern Operator's License, before they can work without supervision of another licensed employee.  Complete the Fill-In Bartender Application and return it to the City Clerk's office.  You must be 18 year's of age and provide a Beverage Server's Certificate or proof of registration in the class, unless the applicant was issued an operator license in Wisconsin within the last two years.  Then a copy of that license will be sufficient.  A background check is performed by the police department for all applications.  Incomplete or inaccurate applications may be denied.

Beverage Server's Class - MATC in Reedsburg offers the Beverage Server's class.  The class is also available online at Learn2Serve.com.

Provisional License - Provisional licenses can be issued for an additional $10 to allow new applicants to work without supervision from the time their application is approved with the City and the time they take the class.  If you have a current license with another municipality, a provisional license can be issued without the waiting period.

Temporary License - This license is for the server working under the Temporary Class B/Picnic liquor license, which is an event license allowing alcohol to be served during a specified period of time.

Expiration - Operator Licenses expire on June 30th.  A regular license is good for two years.  New licenses issued mid-year will expire in June of the second year.  Conditional licenses are good for 1 year and will expire the next June.

Renewal - A renewal application must be submitted 7 to 10 days before the expiration of current license to assure that your license doesn't lapse.  Record checks are performed with each renewal.

Conditional - Sometimes an applicant's background will warrant the issuance of a Conditional License.  Conditional licenses are only good for one year (or less).  See issuance guidelines.

 ELECTIONS/VOTING

Voter Registration -Obtain a Registration form for voting at the City Clerk's office.  Visit the City Clerk's office during business hours.  You will need to present your Driver's License or State ID.  If your driver's license or state ID does not have your current address, you will also need two other forms of identification that will verify your current address, such as a utility bill or bank statement.  If you do not have a Driver's License or State ID we will accept the last four digits of your Social Security number and two other forms of identification that will verify your current address.  Wisconsin still allows voter registration on election day, so you can bring the proper identification to the polling place on the day of the election and register there.

Absentee Voting -Absentee ballots may be requested for each election event.  Obtain an Application for Absentee Voting at the City Clerk's office or send a letter to the City Clerk requesting an absentee ballot and providing an address to send the ballot sent to.  You must be a registered voter.  Walk-in absentee voting is permissible until 5:00pm the Friday before an election.  It is no longer required to be out of town or incapacitated to vote absentee.   You must either vote in person or have the ballot mailed.  Ballots must be received in the City Clerk's office by the day of the election, either by mail or dropped off.  If you wish to receive an absentee ballot for every election, please indicate so on the Application for Absentee Ballot by checking the Indefinite box.  You will continue to receive ballots by mail, until we do not receive a general election ballot back.

Primary vs. General Election Procedures -Primary elections are the 3rd Tuesday in February and the 2nd Tuesday in September.  Primary elections are held to pare down the number of candidates for a particular office.  You must vote within party lines.  Any primary election ballots with cross party voting will be disallowed.  General elections are held the 1st Tuesday in April and the 1st Tuesday in November. You may vote for any candidate in any party for each office in a general election.
